GM's note: anyone with the skill "interface" knows that it "ain't no thang" to monitor the skies over an entire planet: between space stations, satellites, and ships, many of which have subspace sensor arrays, detecting something like a ship in the vast sea of nothing that is space, particularly just the space over a planet, is a fairly easy task.
